Proxy Foundry exists to help players test decks and enjoy casual games without hunting down every card first. That only works if proxies are used honestly and responsibly.
Quick rules (read this part)
- Proxies are for casual play and testing (Commander nights, cube, kitchen table, gauntlet practice).
- Not for sanctioned/tournament play unless the event organizer explicitly allows proxies.
- Never represent proxies as authentic cards.
- Do not sell, trade, or pass them off as real Magic cards.
- Label them clearly so nobody can mistake them for official product.
If that all sounds reasonable, you’re our kind of customer.
What we mean by “proxies”
A proxy is a stand-in card used to play or test a deck when you don’t own (or don’t want to risk) the original. Proxies are common for:
- testing a new build before buying
- cube lists
- casual Commander pods
- “try it first” decks for friends
Where proxies are not OK
Unless an organizer explicitly says otherwise, proxies are not allowed in:
- Wizards-sanctioned events
- competitive tournaments
- any event where proxies are prohibited by store/TO rules
When in doubt: ask the organizer before you sit down.
Labeling expectations (so nobody gets fooled)
We strongly recommend that proxies be clearly identifiable at a glance. Best practices:
- Mark the card face with “PROXY” and/or “NOT FOR SALE.”
- Keep proxies in opaque sleeves with consistent backs.
- If you bring proxies to a new pod or store, tell people up front.
If your goal is “make this indistinguishable from a real card,” that’s not responsible use—and it’s not what we’re here for.
No deception, no resale
You agree that you will not:
- sell proxies as authentic cards
- trade them as real cards
- use them to scam buyers, stores, or other players
- remove markings intended to keep proxies identifiable
- order with the intent of making counterfeit product
If we believe an order is intended for deception or resale as “real,” we may cancel and refund it.
Respect stores, organizers, and playgroups
Game stores and playgroups keep Magic fun. Please:
- follow house rules
- be transparent when you’re using proxies
- don’t pressure others into allowing proxies if they don’t want them
Proxy etiquette is simple: be honest, be chill, and match the room.
