Pokémon Proxy Cards

Pokémon proxies are coming soon to Proxy Foundry. This page is here so you can bookmark it now—and so we can be very clear about what we mean by “proxy” (playtesting) and what we don’t do (counterfeits, deception, or tournament shenanigans).

Proxy Foundry is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures, The Pokémon Company, or The Pokémon Company International.

What “Pokémon proxies” means here

When we say Pokémon proxies, we mean unofficial stand-ins you can use for:

  • Playtesting new lists before you buy singles
  • Casual games where everyone agrees proxies are okay
  • Protecting originals while still getting reps in

They’re meant to be playable and readable—not “convincing.”

What’s coming (soon)

When Pokémon proxies go live, our goal is simple: make playtesting painless.

Expect options like:

  • Consistent sizing & alignment (because “slightly off” is still off)
  • Clear, legible text (no microscope required)
  • Obvious proxy labeling (ex: “PROXY / NOT FOR SALE” style front marks)
  • Art rules that keep things responsible (no “look-real” jobs)

What we will not print

We’re building a proxy workflow—not a counterfeit pipeline.

We won’t support orders intended to:

  • Pass as authentic or fool someone in a trade/sale
  • Enter sanctioned events as “real cards”
  • Hide proxy status to gain an advantage
  • Imitate official product presentation in a way meant to confuse people

If the goal is “indistinguishable,” that’s not a proxy order. That’s a hard no.

Where Pokémon proxies are allowed (and where they aren’t)

A good rule: match the room, and ask the organizer.

In general:

  • Home games / friend groups: often fine if everyone agrees
  • Local casual nights: varies by store—ask first
  • Sanctioned Play! Pokémon events (League Cups, Regionals, etc.): assume no

In official Play! Pokémon rules, “proxy” usually refers to a judge-issued replacement for a card that becomes damaged/marked during the event—not player-made stand-ins. (So your printed test copies don’t count as tournament-legal.)

Quick “don’t be that person” proxy checklist

  • Ask first: don’t surprise opponents with proxies mid-shuffle
  • Label clearly: make it obvious they’re proxies
  • Don’t trade/sell: proxies should never enter the “real card” ecosystem
  • Keep them separate: store proxies away from your collection to avoid mix-ups

If you need stand-ins today

If you’re testing tonight:

  • Use a basic Energy + a paper slip in a sleeve
  • Or use a clearly marked placeholder card list for kitchen-table games

Play the games, learn the deck, upgrade later.
